FUN ITEMS OF INTEREST

Whatta May! Over his last 4 starts, Jacob Misiorowski has thrown 24.1 IP, he’s thrown 3 Quality starts, batters are 9-82 (.110) against him. All nine hits have been singles. He’s walked 5, struck out 37 and has not allowed a run.

Monday, Sacramento’s J.T. Ginn took a no-hitter into the 9th before Adam Frazier led off with a single and Zach Neto followed with a walkoff two-run homer. Final score: Angels 2, Athletics 1. A couple of things, Ginn was going great. He ended up throwing 105 pitches, but the A’s didn’t have anyone warming up until after the hit. And after Ginn allowed the hit, no one from the A’s dugout came out to see him. Obviously, he was disappointed, and obviously, he had expended a tremendous amount of adrenaline, and obviously, a breather could have helped. I’m nowhere near as bright as the people who are paid to do this stuff, and yet my screaming at the screen didn’t get anyone out there.

Ginn did something very rare: as a starting pitcher, he allowed a walkoff homer. The great Clayton Kershaw never did this in his 18 MLB seasons. Justin Verlander never did it, nor did Max Scherzer.

Staying with this game for a moment. The Angels have not been no-hit since September 11, 1999. That would be 26 years, 8 months, 8 days ago, and it is baseball’s longest active streak.

Speaking about no-hitter streaks, the last time the Kansas City Royals were no-noed was 18 years ago yesterday. Happy anniversary, Jon Lester, then of the Boston Red Sox.

There has not been a no-hitter tossed this season. You might recall Parker Messick of the Guardians had his break up also in the 9th in April. The Guardians franchise holds the longest current no-no-no streak. It has been 45 years, 0 months, 4 days, since Len Barker tossed a perfect game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Cleveland Stadium.

From Mr. Baseball (who you should be subscribing to): Ben Rice and Aaron Judge (16 homers each) became the second Yankees set of teammates to hit 16+ HR before the team’s 50th game, joining Mickey Mantle (21 HR) and Yogi Berra (17 HR) in 1956.

The Texas Rangers have thrown 7 shutouts. They are 5-1 when they allow 1 run in a game. That means they are 11-24 when they allow 2 or more runs.

Anybody notice that the Cardinals are 28-19 and in second place in the competitive NL Central? Would it surprise you to learn that they were 26-21 at this time last season? They went 52-63 after their first 47 games last year. This year the Cardinals are 10-3 in one-run games. They are also 7-1 in extras.

Speaking about extra-inning games, the Dodgers haven’t played any. They are the only team that has not played an overtime game.

They looked like they might be heading toward extras last night. Mason Miller, who was appearing in his 147th career game, committed his first error ever, and it cost the Friars the game-winning run in the 9th. It was Miller’s first loss as a Padre.
