IT’S TOO DAMN HOT
While baseball is my favorite sport, summer is my least favorite season. I don’t like the heat or the humidity. I don’t like long days when the sun is still up at 8 pm. Speaking about the sun, I really dislike the beach, with all that sand. This is Bill “Larry David” Chuck, and welcome to Billy-Ball.
TWO FOR TUESDAY
Corbin Carroll and Corbin Burnes are now both on the Arizona Injured List.
It’s been a while since the Dbacks have been without Burnes, who will miss the rest of this season and likely a significant portion of the 2026 season as a result of Tommy John surgery. Now the “other” Corbin joins him on the IL. Corbin Carroll has a chip fracture in his left wrist, and his timeline for a return is unknown. Carroll hasn’t played since a pitch hit him in the left hand last Wednesday in Toronto. X-rays at the time showed no fracture. Two more potential headaches for Arizona as last night infielders Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor left the game with injuries. Suárez left after he was hit on the right hand in the 1st inning. The team announced he had a right-hand contusion, and X-rays were negative (yeah, sure). Naylor appeared to injure his shoulder on a swing in the 2nd inning and left in the 4th. He is day-to-day with right shoulder discomfort. I really think they could do really well as sellers at the trade deadline.
The Cubs and the Cardinals finally play each other.
It’s summer (as I grouchily pointed out above), and last night the two rivals, the Cubs and Cardinals, finally faced each other. I could never create a baseball schedule, but those who have that ability should not let things like this happen. The Cardinals topped the NL Central-leading Cubs, 8-2.
The Brewers and the Cardinals.
The Cubs lead the Brewers and the Cardinals by 3.5 games. Both teams have identical 43-36 records and identical +40 run differentials.
The Mets and the Yankees
There were losses last night for both the Mets (to the Braves) and the Yankees (to the Reds). Each team is 10-11 in June. What’s that word that rhymes with June? Ahh, yes: swoon. This month, with runners in scoring position, the Yankees are hitting .231 and the Mets are hitting .226.
Up next, Freeman and Goldschmidt, Buehler, Frank Robinson, Judge and Raleigh, and Hall and Oates.
