The Rangers’ starters had the best ERA at 2.66, but because of their feeble offense, they were only 10-9 for the month.
The Yankees’ starters were stellar. In May, they went 11-4 with a 2.86 ERA. The Phillies’ starters were successful as well, going 14-6, throwing 160.0 innings, second only to the Rays (163.1 IP).
The Braves, Phillies, and Rays all had 16 Quality Starts in May. The Marlins had one. The Giants and Red starters each only allowed 11 homers in the month. The Athletics permitted 33.
The Cubs bullpen had a sterling 2.37 ERA. The Athletics bullpen ERA was 7.73. The Phillies bullpen had 12 saves, the most in the majors. They had two blown saves. The Cardinals relievers were successful in 11 of 12 save opportunities. The Royals relievers were a perfect 8-8 in saves in May.
