Brandon Nimmo
Nimmo had an almost identical 2023 season compared to 2022, except in one major area. In addition, the Fielding Bible ranked Nimmo as the 26th-best fielding centerfielder in 2022 and the 30th in 2023. Nimmo is signed with the Mets through the 2030 season.
Salvador Perez
Perez had a nearly identical season in 2023. His 46 homers in the last two seasons are two shy of the 48 homers he hit in 2021. In addition, the Fielding Bible ranked Sal as the 25th-best fielding catcher in 2022 and the 30th in 2023.
Will Smith
This is the Will Smith who does not keep winning championship rings with different teams, although he did win his in 2020. By the way, this means that a Will Smith has been on a World Series championship for four consecutive seasons with four different ballclubs.
Will Smith, the Dodgers catcher, has had basically the same BA as last season, but the rest of his numbers drifted downward.
Jose Ramirez
I will admit that I am a big fan of the Guardians’ Jose Ramirez. Every team could benefit from a player like him. While his BA in 2023 was almost the same as in 2022, he had a huge drop-off in RBI. The answer to that was very evident. In 2022, Ramirez hit .331 with runners in scoring position. His RISP in 2023 was .212.
J.D. Martinez
I don’t know whether it is leaving Boston or joining the Dodgers, but there seems to be a never-ending stream of former Red Sox who thrive in Dodger blue. If Red Sox Nation looks just at BA, they are missing a whole lot about this hitting machine. In 2022, with Boston, Martinez hit .218 with runners in scoring position. His RISP with the Dodgers in 2023 was .325.
Justin Turner
The Dodgers and the Red Sox made was tantamount to a trade of DHs last season with Turner (another player that every team should want to have in their clubhouse) in exchange for Martinez. Justin’s numbers went up in Boston, and he will leverage that into a multi-year contract with another team. Turner (unlike Martinez) can play first and third base.
Bryan Reynolds
Reynolds' numbers really look very much the same the past two seasons. But don’t you get the feeling he is on the verge of something special? In 2022, Reynolds hit .229 with runners in scoring position. His RISP in 2023 was .290.
