The Yankees were 40-19 at the end of May in 2024 when they went into their June swoon, going 14-13 in June and 11-13 in July.
The Yankees were 35-22 at the end of May last year when they went into their June swoon, going 13-14 in June and 12-13 in July. This year, the swoon came early. The Yanks started the season 7-1 and 8-2. They have now lost five straight, are 8-7, and are tied with Baltimore and Tampa for first place.
The Yankees are 0-6 in one-run games.
The Cardinals are 6-0 when they score first in a game.
The Red Sox are 0-9 when they trail in a game.
The Astros lead the majors in scoring 49 two-out runs.
But the Mets fans are not piling on, giving their rivals a hard time. Their team has also lost five straight, and the Mets are 7-9 in last place in the NL East.
Both teams, in part, blame the West Sacramento Athletics. The A’s came to the big city and made themselves at home. They took two of three from the Yankees and then took three of three from the Mets. The A’s can be found atop the AL West at 8-7, tied with the Rangers.
Neither the Pirates nor the Mets have allowed a 1st inning homer this season.
The Yankees starters still lead the majors with a 2.67 ERA. The Braves starters are next at 2.70. The Astros starters have a 6.20 ERA.
The Braves’ relievers lead the majors with a 1.95 ERA. The Mariners’ pen is next at 2.10. The Astros bullpen has a 6.75 ERA. The Rays bullpen has a 6.35 ERA and a .283 BAA.
I find items like this simply yummy. The Angels beat the Reds yesterday, 9-6. The Halos are now 8-8. May I remind you that they were 7-7, 6-6, 5-5, 3-3, and 2-2.
