IT’S ABOUT TIME (THE YANKEES)

The Yankees finally scored enough runs and won a game. They defeated the Angels yesterday afternoon, 7-3, to end their losing skid at six games. The Yankees simply stopped hitting during their losing skid.

Luke Weaver is expected to come off the IL for NY today, and that is big news for their bullpen, particularly with Devin Williams pitching so much better of late.

IT’S ABOUT TIME (THE NATIONALS)

The Nationals defeated the Rockies, 4-3 in 11 innings. The win ended the Nats' losing streak at 11 and the Rox winning streak at four. James Wood hit his 19th and 20th homers of the season, including his first walkoff blast. He had all four Nationals’ RBI. The Nats avoided their first sweep at the hands of Colorado since Aug. 18-20, 2009. It also would have matched the longest single-season losing streak (12 games from Aug. 8-20, 2008) in team history (since 2005).

A date to remember: August 2, 2022: James Wood was traded by the Padres with Jarlin Susana (minors), CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, Robert Hassell III, and Luke Voit to the Nationals for Josh Bell and Juan Soto.

FYI: In June, both the Rockies and the Yankees are 8-9.

IT’S ABOUT TIME (THE NL EAST)

The NL East got a lot closer after the Braves swept the Mets, and the Phils moved back into a tie for first place. Mets are 1-7 in their last eight against Atlanta. On Monday, the Braves started Spencer Schwellenbach; on Tuesday, they started Chris Sale; and yesterday, they threw Spencer Strider at the Mets.

This weekend, the Mets face the Phillies, and then they host the Braves, who will have their big three facing them again.

IT’S ABOUT TIME (JAC CAGLIANONE)

Jac Caglianone, playing in his 14th game, became the fourth player in Royals history to hit his first two career homers in the same game, joining Mark Quinn (9/14/99), U L Washington (9/21/79), and pitcher Jim Rooker (7/7/69).

Jac Caglianone is no Bob Nieman. On September 14, 1951, while playing for the St. Louis Browns, Nieman made his MLB debut at Fenway Park and hit home runs in his first two at-bats, both against Mickey McDermott. (T/O/H to the legendary Bob Ryan).

IT’S ABOUT TIME (THE RED SOX)

The Red Sox are sending infielder/outfielder Kristian Campbell to Triple-A. Outfielder Wilyer Abreu will likely be activated off the injured list.

The Sox start a series in San Francisco against Rafael Devers and the Giants tonight. The three-game weekend set with the Giants will conclude a 15-game stretch for the Red Sox against teams with winning records. They are 9-3 so far. The Red Sox (39-37) have won four consecutive series against the Yankees, Rays, Yankees redux, and Mariners.

UP NEXT: The tension in LA, the superheroes who did not meet, and a remarkable stat for the Red Sox.
