HERE’S WHAT I’M LOOKING AT:

KERSH

Through eight starts, Clayton Kershaw is now 4-0. It is his second-longest streak he has had to start a season and remain undefeated. In 2019, he went 5-0 through his first nine starts. Yesterday in Colorado, Kersh threw 6.0 IP and allowed two Rockies hits, one run, one walk, and struck out five.

He threw only 69 pitches because…

His next start will be Wednesday evening against the White Sox at Dodger Stadium, needing three strikeouts to reach 3000 and Dave Roberts wanted him to reach that number at home.

This month, Kershaw has thrown 27.2 IP, with a 2.28 ERA, a 1.05 WHIP, and has 23 strikeouts. The Dodgers are 5-0 in his starts.

Kershaw now has 171 games in his career in which he threw 6+ innings and gave up one run or less.

MOST CAREER GAMES WITH 6+ INNINGS AND ONE RUN OR LESS, LAST 50 YEARS

This is from my friend and colleague, Mr. Baseball. His Substack can be found here.
Roger Clemens 243
Greg Maddux 203
Tom Glavine 203
Randy Johnson 180
Justin Verlander 185
Clayton Kershaw 171

OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS…

The Rays and Cubs have thrown two shutouts.

The Mets, Blue Jays, Tigers, Astros, Twins, A’s, Rangers, and Padres have thrown one shutout each.

The great Craig Calcaterra (his work can be found here) shared an email he received from one of his readers, which included, “The 12 shutouts on Wednesday and Thursday are tied with August 26th and 27th, 1968 for the most shutouts during back-to-back days in MLB history.”

I look forward to receiving insightful emails like that from you as well.

THE 99-WIN ROCKIES

The Colorado Rockies are now 18-63. If they win the rest of their games, they still won't win 100 games this season. They will, however, have one hell of an 81-game winning streak.

The Colorado Rockies are now 8-32 at home. If they win the rest of their games, they still won't win 50 games at home this season.

THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME

  • The NL East first-place Mets have the best home record in the majors. They are 29-12, with a .707 winning percentage.

  • The AL West first-place Astros have the second-best home record in the majors. They are 30-13, with a .698 winning percentage.

  • The AL Central first-place Tigers have the third-best home record in the majors. They are 28-13, with a .683 winning percentage.

  • The NL West first-place Dodgers have the fourth-best home record in the majors. They are 30-14, with a .682 winning percentage.
